Something as small as a grab bar can create a wonderful sense of security in your home. They create a greater feeling of independence. Strong and stable, a strategically located anchored grab bar can be the difference between a relaxing bath and a drive to the emergency room at your local hospital.
With their wet floors, narrow doorways, low toilets, slippery showers and bathtubs, bathrooms can pose a threat to an able-bodied person’s safety from falls.
Falls are the most common accident around the home as we grow older. They can be prevented by using grab bars, handrails and safety bars to provide stability and the extra support required by older adults and people with limited mobility.
Handrails can be used throughout your home to provide safety and help prevent falls along hallways, anywhere there are steps and ramps. A conveniently and correctly mounted safe and sturdy railing will help you keep your balance and provide a safe, accessible and independent lifestyle while reducing your risk of falling.
AIP Mobility Plus offers many styles to choose from.
A few Grab Bar Uses in Addition to Safety:
- Grab Bar with Built in Towel Bar
- Corner Shelf Bar
- Accent Ring Bar
- Soap Dish Bar
- Toilet Paper Holder Bar
Types of Grab Bars:
- Single wall / Straight Grab Bars
These are most common grab bars that are widely used. They come in 12″, 16″, 24″, 32″, 36″, 42″, and 48″ length. There are many variation of single wall grab bars from simple to luxury grab bars that can satisfy your aesthetic needs.
- L-shape or Angled Grab Bars
These grab bars offers both horizontal and diagonal support in one piece. Universal design for both left and right-hand applications. Specialists recommend a 24″ grab bar installed at a 45-degree angle, sloping up towards the showerhead, with the lowest point approximately 9″ above the rim of the tub.
The floor to ceiling bars is an incredibly solid, expansion fit, floor to ceiling pole. Designed for those requiring assistance with sitting and standing and can be installed in virtually any room. You can place the support exactly where it is needed, beside a bed, bath, toilet or chair. It is an excellent choice when wall is not available.
This type of grab bars are options when wall is not available. One end is installed to the floor and the other end to the adjacent wall.
Like the L-type bars it provides both horizontal and vertical support. The difference is it is the horizontal side and the vertical side is located in two adjacent walls.
How much does it cost to install grab bars? In comparison to the potential cost of a fall… very little!
It’s scary. One slip in the bathroom is all it takes to encounter costly medical bills and immobility.
A Grab Bar or Railing is not a do-it-yourself project.

AIP Mobility Plus are Aging In Place Specialists focused on the needs of older adults who would like to remain active and independent. Limited mobility, balance and strength, bath safety, and independent living are addressed by our railing and grab bar installation in New Jersey.
The concept of “Aging In Place” refers to the ability to live comfortably in your own home. A leading cause of injuries occur in the bathroom, especially in the bathtub or shower areas. According to the CDC, more than one in three adults over 65 and older fall each year. Many sustain injuries that can make it more difficult for them to live on their own.
Grab bars and handrails help to maintain balance and provide safety and support, not only for older adults and people with disabilities, but for everyone.
At AIP MOBILITY PLUS, we can also make custom handrails for our clients. These are sized to fit in the space, cut to size, mitered stained or painted to our client’s preferences. We then install the handrail, ensuring that each support bracket is anchored securely into a stud along the wall.
