If you or your loved one needs a stair lift, we know the search can be exhausting. Many people want to remain in their homes as they get older. They don’t want to leave the homes they love and move to a new place. To remain in their homes, some changes may need to happen, so their homes are more accessible.

We know looking around online for stair lifts can be difficult and frustrating. You might have even gone to some of the medical supply stores to look for the best stair lifts. You may have questions about the average cost of a stair lift or about the average cost of a stair lift installation.

Stair Lifts

As people age, they frequently begin to have trouble with stairs. Sometimes, seniors have breathing problems because of a lung disease. And, that can make it difficult for them to walk up the stairs. Seniors may also have knee or leg problems that make climbing stairs difficult. In addition, some seniors have issues with balance that may cause them to fall while using the stairs. Research indicates the place where most accidents occur for seniors is on a staircase. All these are good reasons to put in a stair lift for safety.

Stair lifts are devices that a technician will install on a staircase. They usually have a track system and a chair for a person to sit in. The person straps himself or herself into the chair, and, then, it moves him or her up the stairs. Adults can use chair lifts to go up or down the stairs — inside or outside the home. Stair lifts make the trip between the floors of a house much safer for seniors.

Stair Chair Lift Costs

The cost of a stair lift depends on how extensive it is to access all the floors of your home. If you have stairs that move in a straight line between two floors, your stair lift will not be expensive. However, if it’s curved, or goes between multiple floors, the cost will be higher. Stair lifts that are outdoors are also more expensive than ones that are indoors.

Stair chair lift prices for a straight staircase with 12 to 14 steps can cost between $2,000 and $5,000. While we know this price range is rather wide, it’s difficult to pin down an average cost. Some staircases have far fewer stairs. Prices also vary depending on the model of stair lift you use. For example, the cost of a stair lift might be between $2,000 and $2,500. However, this will be a basic model with limited options. More expensive stairlifts can accommodate more weight, and not be as intrusive. You may also be able to customize this lift to meet specific needs. For example, you could choose a specific color or noise level.

Chair lifts for curved stairs are more expensive. These prices can be between $5,000 and $10,000 or even more. The cost depends on how many twists and turns the stairs have and how many flights of stairs there are. Outdoor stair lift prices typically begin at $3.500 for a straight, single-floor stairlift whereas an outdoor curved stair lift is going to be more.

Stair Lift Installation

The cost of installation depends on the length and complexity of the stair lift itself. Straight stairlift installations for small staircases will be the least expensive. Depending on the difficulty of the installation, and the amount of time taken, the installation costs will rise. The cost to install one on a curved staircase will be higher. It’s difficult to price the installation of a stairlift, however, without first talking to a mobility company about your needs.
